Our story
In an ever faster and more connected world that drowns us in a flow of information, it is complicated to take the time to discover the artists who will make the scene of tomorrow.
Cyril Manzini, photographer for 10 years found La Maison de l’argentique in 2020 during covid. He thus wishes to continue to make people travel and dream. Its wish is to offer by a sorting, access to great photographers, whose ethical values, taste for craftsmanship, relationship with the material and a slower temporality are the spearhead of their approach.
Today, our online art gallery offers a selection of film photographs, while revealing the leading artists of tomorrow. The works are handcrafted in a very limited edition. Why are they unique? Because this handmade work in the darkroom does not allow the same print to be made exactly twice.
Several times a year, it is possible to meet artists around temporary exhibitions. Indeed, they are keen to share their poetic vision of the world, to move people and to nourish reflection through their photographs.
Furthermore, the works can also be presented by appointment in Paris.

Artisanal know-how
La Maison de l’argentique is first and foremost an invitation to travel and dream thanks to artisanal know-how.
Film photography is the fruit of a complex creation process which begins from the shoot until the picture development. This artisanal process requires mastering many techniques, an artistic vision, a huge amount of practice and rigor.
The lab is a major step in the artistic process where the final direction is chosen for each image.
Each print is made by hand and therefore becomes unique.
The papers used by La Maison de l’argentique, are only traditional papers. Some are even ancestral, hence the timeless dimension added to certain images.
These handmade artistic prints are available on the online gallery and by appointment.

The traditional silver print - Photography
La Maison de l’argentique is first and foremost a unique know-how : traditional analog photography.
The artworks come from our different artists who works on photo formats from the 35mm to the 4x5 large format.
After developping the films, the artist studies the contact sheets so as to select the photos that will see the light of day. The following step is done by hand in the artists darkroom, using his photo enlarger. It is then the print can be made. The combinations of the photographers artistic vision and his artisanal know-how, are what makes this company so great.
The Fresson print are made in collaboration with l’Atelier Fresson. Founded 100 years ago, l’Atelier provides us with the full charcoal colour process, specific to fine art paper. It’s unique process is renound worldwide.
The use of such pigments in the final image brings the best out of both worlds that are so important to the aritst : the photo, and the painting.

Polaroid
Very popular in the last few years, Polaroid captivates since its beginings, thanks to its distinctive and smoothe effects into the final result.
Polaroids texture, its surrealistic colours, tainted like pastels, and intense black create its charm are just a few reasons for its unique beauty.
The use of various Polaroid emulsions complete the artists palet of techniques and nurtures his creativity. Thanks to the use of instant photo cameras : SX-70 or SLR-680, the photographers can create those special work.
It’s temporality is also unique, a fraction of a second in time needed to capture the instant and only a few minutes for the latter to develop.
The Polaroid is an unique piece.

We work in close collaboration with Vincent who produces some of our prints in his parisian ArtGentique laboratory. His love of the light of art printing and perfection, provides us with magnificent prints.
